A better body, the Bloody Mary way

My mom and I haven’t always agreed on everything, but we are very closely aligned on this point: having a good body depends on excellent physical and mental health. A lot of her views on the subject came from a book that she got from her mother. It said, “There can be no development of beauty in sickly fibres. Plenty of exercise in the open air is the great recipe.” The book advised not just any exercise, but “the wild romping activities of a spirited girl who runs up and down as though her veins were full of wine.” Do you think this is how  Zumba got its start?

Speaking of acting like you’re full of wine, a happy personality is also critical to how you look.  More advice from the same book: “Everything should be done to give joy and vivacity to the spirit. A crushed, sad, or moping spirit is a fatal cause of a flabby and moping body.”

In that case, I have some very good advice for you. All you have to do is samba into your kitchen and prepare the following Bloody Mary. It’s full of low-fat, antioxidant-rich ingredients that are certain to put a spring in your step and a smile on your face.

2 shots gin
4 oz Portland Bloody Mary Mix
1 tsp lemon juice
1 cup or so of cubed ice

Put everything into a cocktail shaker, kick off your shoes, find some Daft Punk on Spotify, and shake it, baby! If you do this every day for 3 or 4 minutes, your body will be beach-ready in no time at all. When you’re done, strain mixture into a Collins glass over fresh ice cubes. Are we having fun yet?? I thought so!
